Helix ALM DOORS Integration Overview

In an Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) environment, the choice of systems and the collaboration between the cross-functional teams play a great role in delivering quality solutions. While the choice of systems impacts the productivity of a team, the cross-functional collaboration helps the teams get complete context of the business requirements.

Best-of-breed systems such as DOORS and Helix ALM bring rich functionalities to the ecosystem. By integrating DOORS with Helix ALM, enterprises can keep the business, development, and quality team focused on customer priorities, quality of the deliverable, and accelerate the product development cycle.

How OpsHub Integration Manager integrates Helix ALM and DOORS

OpsHub Integration Manager integrates DOORS and Helix ALM bidirectionally. It ensures that all historical and current data is available to each user, in that user’s preferred system, with full context, in real-time. All ‘requirements’ from DOORS automatically synchronize to Helix ALM and all the defects associated with the ‘requirement’ synchronize back to DOORS.

Use Case: Helix ALM integration with DOORS

Problem statement: The product management team uses DOORS and the development team uses Helix ALM. As these systems are not integrated, the product management team doesn’t have visibility into how a customer requirement is being developed. Any change made to the delivery timelines or nature of the requirements also needs to be manually communicated to the development team.

Solution: When DOORS and Helix ALM are integrated using OpsHub Integration Manager, the coordination between the product management and development teams will be seamless.

  1. The Product Manager logs a ‘story’ in an existing ‘epic’ in DOORS.
  2. The Product Manager then re-prioritizes the existing stories within that ‘epic’ in DOORS.
  3. The new ‘story’ synchronizes to Helix ALM along with the defined priority.
  4. In Helix ALM, the priorities of other stories also change according to the updates made to the stories in DOORS.
  5. The development team starts work on the story marked as ‘Critical’ in Helix ALM. They change the status of the story to ‘In Progress’ when they start work.
  6. The status of the ‘story’ changes to ‘In Progress’ in DOORS as well – the Product Manager is notified that the development work on the critical story has started.
  7. The quality control team also reprioritizes this story for writing test cases.
