ABB Unlocks the Power of Institutional Data and Informed Decision Making with OpsHub's Digital Mesh

Overview

ABB is Swedish-Swiss multinational corporation and market leader in electrification and automation. To accelerate the pace of innovation, ABB’s R&D team was looking for a solution that enabled fast adoption of new tools. They also wanted a better way to share data between teams using different systems. A recommendation from OpsHub’s partner Microsoft led to a proof of concept of OpsHub’s Digital Mesh solutions,OpsHub Migration Manager (OMM) and OpsHub Integration Manager (OIM). Following a successful POC, ABB selected OMM for their tool modernization and OIM for real-time synchronization of data across systems, addressing all of ABB’s digital transformation needs.

Challenges

  • 1 Information silos across multiple, geographically distributed DevOps teams leading to poor visibility and impaired decision making.
  • 2 Risk of disruption, downtime, and loss of institutional data with new tool adoption while migrating from Micro Focus ALM (HP ALM) to Azure DevOps (ADO) Services
  • 3 Duplication of efforts rebuilding the same components due to lack of complete information and collaboration
  • 4 Inability to mirror or map data and dependencies across ADO organizations
  • 5 Poor reporting and data visibility for senior leadership

Leveraging OpsHub Integration Manager and OpsHub Migration Manager to Accelerate the Pace of Innovation

With multiple DevOps teams distributed across 7 countries and vast amounts of priceless legacy data often fragmented across tools, ABB needed a solutions partner that matched the pace of their evolving requirements and growing product complexity. They needed a solution that empowered teams to capture all the relevant data they need effectively, by adopting the modern tools. They also wanted to break down information silos to easily share the needed information in real-time across teams and with senior management to make informed decisions.

They realized this objective with OpsHub solutions to migrate, restructure, organize and share data across teams and tools.

Engagement Benefits

  • De-risked tool modernization with a non-disruptive, zero-downtime, high-data fidelity migration
  • Better dependency tracking across seven ADO organizations with real-time bi-directional synchronization and consolidation of data regardless of process templates
  • Enhanced stakeholder decision making with data federation and complete information
  • Improved reusability of components shared across tools led to process efficiency and reduced time to value
  • Rich collaboration and potential for innovation with a more cohesive digital mesh

I really like the migration capability because OpsHub’s migration tool retains all the transaction history along with the work items when it gets migrated. This is something that gives it the real edge in the tool modernization/migration ecosystem compared to its peers where they just provide a PDF-based history. When it comes to live synchronization, it is something very magical for us because the teams are working on their own ADO team projects and they need to be least worried about whatever updates they make – their epics, features and bugs, they get automatically synced so that management can see the information as a whole organization.
